  1. All these Pozières Ridge questions!

What's known is that there were three Allied divisions consisting of Australia and the UK. The number of Germans and Central powers is not exactly known. This battle incorporated phosgene gas, a nerve agent, and tear gas to draw the enemy out of trenches. Since it was considered "No Man's Land", machine gun nests could easily mow down enemy troops attempting retreat. Once the allies captured Pozières, the Germans began to mortar shell them, unsuccessfully.

  2. Well if was one of the battles where tanks were used for the first time by the Fourth British Army 48th British Battalion under General Sir Henry Rawlinson

There was a total of 51 British and 48 French divisions and 50 divisions.

    They used the following weapons.

    rifles-Mauser Gewehr 98 and the .303 Enfield

pistols-Luger 9mm P08, Mauser C96 and C10 pistols, Webley Mk IV revolver, Browning revolver 9 mm Model 1903

machine guns-Maschinengewehr 08, Lewis Machine Gun, the Vickers machine gun

Also used, and please check my web site for more detailed descriptions

    were-Bayonets,Flamethrowers,Grenades,P... Gas, and Trench Mortars

These weapons were used from the beginning of the war in all battles. There was no new weapons introduced every so many months like world war two. The development of weapons was fairly static during world war 1. So these weapons were use by the English, Australians, and Germans.

It is a good site to see weapon used by both sides not just one.
