Hi there! I am planning to go to Thailand - to Bangkok & to a beach in mid Oct. What weather can I expect? I read in travel guides that it is monsoon season in Oct. But does it really rains a lot or just a heavy rain for a hour? I would not mind if it just rains for an hour or so. But i do not want to be locked up in a hotel because of rain. I wonder if i should reschedule the vacation?

  1.   No,It's not the real monsoon season in October. It drops off from September quite a lot.I live here,I know. And it's not like you might think about Thailand.Maybe some remote places get it bad but normally It rains a little while sometimes very hard but nice, warm and fun then quits. In America it can rains for 300 miles for 3 days but not often here.It rains hard for 5 minutes or a hour and stops.Yes,it can rain longer and flood but that can happen anywhere.I've lived here 4 years a have luckily never been stuck in that situation. You will be on the beach.Your lucky the rain runs in the ocean. The monsoon season is in September in the south and May and July int the north.

P.S. Go to the island of Koh Chang it is the most beautiful, best priced, best clubs, most fun island in the country.

  2. You should be fine, October is toward the end of the rainy season and most of the time when it rains it's a passing thundershower that rarely even lasts an hour. You'll still get a lot more sun than rain in October, my brother comes to visit me every October and plays golf everyday while he's here, in the last five or six years he hasn't missed one day of golf yet because of rain. October is normally a good month to come to Thailand, it's less crowded with tourists and hotel prices in the beach areas can be half the price of what they are after Nov.1 when the high tourist season begins.
