  1. Go to the box above that says "Search for questions:" and type in Genealogy Free.  You'll see over 200 responses to your question.  Good luck.

  2. cyndislist (link in above answer) is a catalog of thousands of genealogy resources.  Many are free, some are not.

If you believe you can go to ONE website, and completely find your total ancestry, that isn't what I define as research. Research involves the process of finding information, from many places. They won't all be free, they won't all even be online.

Sorry.. just the way it is.

  3. These free sites are very useful:

This link it for the Mormon churches vast collection of family history, Social Security Death Index and US (1880), Canada & UK (1881) Census records. They also offer free family tree software (.PAF5).

    http://www.familysearch.org/ (for records search)

    http://www.familysearch.org/eng/home/wel... (for software download)

Cyndislist is a popular site with extensive links for specific countries and ethnic groups.

Rootsweb has family trees with over 250 million names and links to volunteer databases.

Ancestry.com does provide free access to a few databases but there is a charge for most.  Here is a list of the freebies:

Ted Pack's website is really helpful for people who are getting started in their research.  He gives great advise and links to the most popular free sites..
