I am almost 15 and I am trying to find a place where i can do community service *Since it is good on a college application/ scholarship* I thought I would do some community service before I get a job. Anybody have any ideas where I could look.

I would rather help with needy children, elderly people, animals, or with the planet. If anybody has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much!

  1. Try craigslist.com and the page your town.

There are often park or river clean ups done by local conservation groups. You can visit elderly people on your own. Call some churches and ask about their "shut-ins;" you could read to them or listen to their stories, maybe even make notes. Even if you aren't religious, many churches would let you list them as a place where you volunteered. It might even get you extra "points" if you said that (on your application), because it shows that you're open-minded.

  2. Try http://www.volunteermatch.org/

    And for animal shelters/rescues:

    visit : http://www.petfinder.com/

Scroll down, and on the left it says "Find Animal Welfare Groups".

You can put in your location/zip code and it will provide you with a list of all of the animal rescues and shelters in your area.

Go through the list, call them, visit them, or take a look at there websites to see what their age limit is.

Thats the best way of finding out who you can volunteer with.

Also, 15 years old is probably just a little late to enhance college and scholarships applications.  But I am sure that if you start now and volunteer with at least 3 organizations and become very involved with them that you will have no problem!

    Good luck!
