My sister is 37 weeks pregnant and the midwife said she is engaged and ready to go - just wondered when other people had their babies? How can we tell if labour is coming on??

Thanks x

  1. My daughter arrived 8 days late. The head was engaged from about week 36 so your sister could still have a bit of a wait

  2. My son was born at 39 weeks 6 days! Haha 1 day before his due date.  However I was not dialated at all and they were SURE I would be late. I showed Zero signs of going into labor! Then all of a sudden my water broke 2 days before my due date and after a 25 hour labor he arrived!

  3. At week 35, midwives kept telling me the head was engaged and to expect labour to happen early, but I was still waddling until the 42nd week! 2 weeks over due. There's no way to explain labour, but when the time comes, your sister will know, trust me

  4. My water broke at 38 weeks.

  5. I was 25 weeks, because my water broke prematurely at 24 weeks.

  6. Hi,

My first son arrived 11 days late...

Next, twin sons were 11days early...

Last son was 11 days late....

Anyone see a pattern here?? lol

I'm now pregnant again - so we shall see!

As for how to tell? With my first, I woke up one morning and needed the bathroom. Thought that I was going to be there for ever, lol - I new you pee'd a lot when pregnant but this was ridiculouss! As soon as I stood up, I realised that my waters had gone! Labour was on its way!

Twins, I woke up and thought I had wet the bed. I was so ashamed! I put towels over my side of the bed as my ex-husband slept and tried to go have a shower..that'sts when the pain kicked in and realised my waters had gone, lol.

My last delivery was an induction, so that wont help here.

But when the labour pains start, count for how long they last, and before the next... as they get stronger, can you talk through them and concentrate? When I phoned the delivery suite, the midwife kept me chatting. She saithat'sts how they gaged if you were in real labour or not.

Also, if you take a bath and the pains stop - not labour pains. Nothing will stop labour and the pains once it gets going.

Good luck to your sister! Baby will be here when ever he/she feels like it, regardless of what anyone says, so tell her just to try and relax and enjoy these last days of pregnancy. :o)

    Blessings,

    Zoe

  8. My 1st boy was born 1 week early.  My water broke, went to the hospital, was mildly induced.

My 2nd boy was born on his due date.  My water broke and contrations began.

My latest edition was born 1 month early.  I had complications and was induced with picocin.  It was a very strong labor.

Every woman is different.  Baby comes when baby comes.

    Typical Signs of Labour

    - Loss of Mucous Plug (thick/blobby discharge)

Could mean labour is imminent, but in some cases it can happen more than once and labour can still be a good 3 weeks away.

    -Waters Breaking

You are in labour - and need medical advice even without contractions.

-Regular Contractions (every 10 mins or less, each one lasting 30 seconds or more - without going away when you move position)

You are in labour and should contact your health professional.

Wish your sister the best of luck - and good for her that you are so keen to be of great help to her!!
