If we could cut the world in half and put it on a gigantic scale, which would be heavier?

  1. neither. one half is one half. now if you said that we'll cut it up to a 1/3 piece and a 2/3 piece, then the 2/3 piece would be heavier. but 1/2 can't be any heavier than the other half.

  2. both wud weigh da same

it is bcoz da earth's shape is such dat all forces acting on it (gravitational ,rotational etc) so as da earth is almost a sphere v can say dat all forces r same n accordingly da mass is spread!! all forces act radially!!

so v can say dat both 'weigh' da same.....

but their 'masses' may differ slightly as da inside of earth is on constant move depending on da forces acting.

but earth is not spherical but oval . but dis has no effect on our answer coz still da forces acting balance as v can see dat earth has almost spherical shape thus da 'weighs' r da same but da masses r not!!

hope u know da diff btw mass n weight. :)

  3. Quite an interesting question.

I'm not so sure that the Northern hemisphere IS the heavier.

The reason for my doubt is that; although the northern hemisphere does have more continental area and is on the average more elevated; the continetal or sialic crust (short for silicon aluminium rich crust) is less dense that the oceanic or simatic crust (short for silicon magnesium rich crust), and is a lot thicker (up to 50km thick, compared to 5km  thickness for the oceanic crust).

Therefore, the lower density and greater thickness of the continental crust  would make the northern hemisphere  lighter than the southern hemisphere.

This argument applies to the crust only, and the underlying denser rocks of the mantle and the even denser materials that make up the core weigh a lot more than the crust.

  4. North hemsiphere. It is composed of Eurasia, the largest among the continent. It has more land mass and density. Where you can find densest metals such as uranium, molybdenum, tungsten... more in north hemisphere. The world is more tilt toward north by 23 1/2 degrees.

  5. The Northern Hemisphere. It has much more land mass
