  1. Around 10 to 15% more than they weigh at fight time is a good general rule but every fighter is different.

Anderson Silva walks around at about 210 lbs - he fights at 185 - so he cuts 25 lbs or so - call it 12%.  When he fought Irvin at 205 he only had to cut 5 lbs (2%) for that one.

GSP cuts a lot of weight.  If I'm not mistaken he walks at 190-195 and cuts 25 lbs also - that's closer to 15%.

Some guys don't cut at all, esp the heavyweights - Their max is 265 and I think the only guy that has to cut to get there is Brock Lesnar who weighs 285 or so.  Cutting 20 lbs for him is only 7%.

  2. When they are cutting weight most of it is water anyway not fat. Jesus. Get a clue before you start spewing answers.

  3. Generally around the weight division they fight in so they don't have to cut to much. Brock Lesner is usually about 20 pounds over; since the HWD max is 265, he walks around somewhat near 280 - 290. Anderson Silva is usally around 205-210 for the 185 division. Mac Danzig is right around 175 and drops to the 155 division. It really is up to the fighter about how comfortable they are. It would be very difficult for some like GSP to drop down to LW because he has no fat as it is so he would have to lose muscle making him much weaker in a fight.

  4. Tao J has a good answer, it depends on the fighter, generally the lighter wieght guys cut less total wieght but a higher percentage, verus the heavier guys who cut more total wieght but usually less percetage.

Some of the biggest wieght cutters are sean sherk, i have heard he "walks around" at as much as 180-190 and he gets down to 155

forrest griffin 240 and he gets to 205

rich franklin 215+ and he used to get to 185

  5. I'm assuming it shouldn't be too much above the weight requirement of their respective divisions. The more weight they gain, the more work they're going to have to undergo in order to cut.
