  1. Is it carp your going for?

If so then its all about the distance your wanting to cast..

U dont need weights what are super heavy unless you are casting super distances..

Its just a case of buyin a few and testing them by casting the distance your aiming to fish at.

U could just tie the bomb on to your line and just cast that out.. start with the smallest.. Always use the smallest one possible.

Because if the weigh is too big, the fish will take the bait feel the weight and eject the food from their mouth.. As fish become very warey of anglers gear and baits.

I only use 12lb for my carp fishing which is plenty strong enough.

  2. why such heavy line? usually light line is better...as well as a lighter sinker or no sinker - barely enough weight to get it out there to the fish or down to them where they are (running water)

What kind of fish are you going after? Also have you considered braided line (Fireline) it's really small diameter and strong...

  3. It depends on what you want the weight to do.

Lighter weight for suspended or semi suspended baits

Heavier weight to keep it on the bottom.

I use a 1 oz weight on 20lb braided line to go catfishing. I'll use more weight if the water has a strong current.

And on the same 20lb line I'll use a split shot to slowly sink a piece of bouyant bait.

  4. ya use a 20# egg sinker on that heavy of line.   and if ya really want to catch something big, make sure to use a 5# t-bone steak for bait.

  5. Holy snapping duckfish batman ... that's one big line.  I guess you're going after some serious tuna or kingies with that?

It depends what you're fishing for really.  Think about whether you want the bait to sink for bottom feeders or are you after pelagic quick movers.  If you're going for the top of the water you only want a small enough ball sinker to take you a few feet down while you move the bait around.  If you want to take it to the bottom, put a trace on and a 1/2 ounce to 1 1/2 ounce plate sinker.

If you're on a beach with that line and a pilchard you want something to suit the conditions more than the line.  Rougher the surf the heavier the sinker
