His main contribution is the Method of Physical Action, i.e. his belief that actors only have their bodies to convey the characters messages (if any) to the audience. Therefore he paid a lot of attention on instructing the actors how to take and regain control of their bodies. Acting could not be taught nor learned through literature, he believed. Only by acting - which is true for many things in life, not only acting.
