  1. She inspired people by her courage and generosity during the last war.

  2. 1.  Gave birth to the two princesses (Elizabeth and Margaret)  - thus fulfilling her dynastic duties.

    2.  With her husband, King George VI, became the first widely traveled monarchs of the modern era.  This caused a great deal of love and affection to be created between the Queen mother and her subjects around the globe.

    3. During World War II, the King and Queen became symbols of the nation's resistance. She endured the Blitz in London earning her subjects' respect.  Also, she refused to evacuate her children when the situation looked dire.  There's the famous quote -- The children will never leave without me, I will never leave without the King and the King will never leave.   Because of her effect on British morale, Adolf Hitler is said to have called her "the most dangerous woman in Europe"

I'm sure that she had her faults - who does not?  But I prefer the gallant lady that I grew up admiring.

  3. She was a mother

  4. I couldn't get it all in so,I wont even attempt it.Perfection is not a quality that anyone,Kings,Queens and popes included can lay claim to but,I think her good qualities outweigh the bad ones.

  5. Because she was a very pleasant person who always had a smile on her face for the whole human race.

  6. She left a massive debt while spending public money for her royal jewellery and clothes. I can't believe the old tart died without refunding the public's money... is that something great?

  7. 1)  The Queen Mum was the first non-royal to marry a British crown prince in the 20th century, although she was certainly from an aristocratic Scottish family.  This would eventually set the stage for Queen Elizabeth II's children to marry commoners.

    2)  Queen Elizabeth was the mother of two princesses: admittedly Princess Elizabeth was raised as a serious-minded, dutiful child while Princess Margaret was more than "spoiled".

    3)  George VI's consort took her royal duties seriously since didn't desert her London subjects during the blitz.

    4)  Queen Elizabeth is probably the royal responsible for bringing about the "modern image" of the royal family, albeit without the divorces and affairs:

    a)  She stage-managed "candid" photo-ops for the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret during the 1930s and 1940s.

    b) She also knew how to do a walk about and perfected the royal wave.  Feathery hats and pastel, fluffy frocks hid a formidable iron will.

    c)  Although the Queen Mum was ambitious, she didn't really welcome her reserved husband's succession to the throne. She thoroughly hated Wallis Simpson (and held a life-long grudge against her) because the Duchess of Windsor seriously hurt the "firm's" image.

    d) Quite obviously to all observers, the Queen Mum was the "boss" of her nuclear family.

    5)  She infused fresh (blue) blood into the Royal Family by possessing great genes for good-healthy and longevity.  Even though she smoked and drank quite heavily, she still lived to over100 in sound mind.

  8. she braught hip-hop back

  9. She and her husband were wonderful to the English people during WWII - she didn't just hide away, she boosted moral! I thought she was awesome and I'm an American.

  10. Well - she put some backbone into a distinctly shaky husband in 1940, and set an example, by remaining in London, that all too many of her fellow-aristocrats didn't have the courage to follow.

And she certainly loved life, especially when viewed throgh a glass of gin or a pair of binoculars on the gallops in the early morning.

On the other hand, she was a poisonous influence within her own family in some respects - consider the furious refusal to be reconciled with the Duke of Windsor and his wife - and, much worse, her preventing her daughter's happiness in a marriage that would probably have been happier than the one into which she actually entered.

As with most people, some good traits and actions, some bad.
