The foreign policies I want to know about are the ones from Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Jefferson. I tried Googling information, but the reading was confusing. If it involves Nuetrality, Alliances, Militarism, Imperialism, Nationalism, Isolationism or Diplomacy, then please include it. I need this for a Ap World History Assignment, and the 1800s is confusing for me.

  2. The United States foreign policy throughout most of the nineteenth century was one of isolationism. In his departing message to the nation, George Washington warned his successors not to become involved in foreign alliances. The Presidents that followed him stuck to that message of isolationism and had little to do with affairs in Europe. Thee were a few minor exceptions, for instance the Monroe Doctrine which warned Europe not to intervene in the western hemisphere. Until the late nieteenth century, when the United States went to war with Spain, America remained isolationist.
