Basically historical events in the past century that have been significant in the creation of Global International Relations we see around us today. I.e. Conflicts, alliances, etc

One example is the 1948 UN resolution to allow Israel to form a sovereign stae that has led to the constant fighting in the Middle East we see today.

  1. establishing the United Nations is a big step towards peace among countries. with the establishment of UN, less conflicts persists. I would also consider the invention of the atomic bomb or nuclear power as a source of conflicts because it is such a destructive material. that is why when a country is reported to be researching nuclear power, many countries protest and conflicts happen.

  2. 1893 - The British decision to separate their empire in India from Afghanistan by splitting the Pashtu people in half thus creating a border (Durand Line) many of them do not recognize to this day.  So today, Pakistan fears a strong Pashtu Afghanistan will reassert their claims to the Pashtu region of Pakistan thus their past and present support for the Taliban.

1920s - The British decision to take three distinct areas of the Middle East and throw them together into a lovely cauldron called Iraq.

  3. dozens of examples

the "liberation" of Africa- tracing of borders without regard to the ethnicity of the inhabitants- leading to conflicts such as Darfur, Rwanda/Burundi, Congo

the "liberation" and partition of India- direct cause of the India/ Pakistan conflicts

allowing the communists to take over China and the recognition of red China as a "one and only", "legal" state- direct cause of the conflict in Tibet, war with India, war in Korea, Wietnam, Laos, Cambodia, "civil war" in Nepal and northern India, Burma.... and a few dozen others

Supporting the "liberation" of Rhodesia/ Zimbabwe: direct cause of the misery and murder which the rule of Mugabe brings to that once pleasant land

Not all these actions were wrong. but they were forced without regard to long term effects. maybe a slower road would have been littered with fewer corpses...?
