I am hopefully going next summer to China. I really want to go so no posts on how dangerous or that's a bad program. I've already researched it. Thanks for all your input. Multiple fundraisers greatly appreciated. And also places to do it at would also be great.

  1. omg i got that letter today!!! this is like the third letter i've gotten from them, but I think I"m finally old enough to appreciate it. I'm gonna try to convince my parents to let me do it, then i'm gonna talk to my guidance councelers to see if they have any fund raising ideas. This doesn't answer your question. But hey, at least you know there is someone else in you boat!!

  2. I would love to go to China -- I'm envious!  I didn't have to fundraise to go with Rotary, so I can't comment on how effective my ideas are, but I have a few.  You could get some friends and family together and do a car wash at a local gas station.  You could go door to door in your neighborhood and tell everyone that you are going to be a student ambassador in China, would they be willing to sponsor you?  You could do some sort of bake sale or yard sale.  Maybe your parents would let you do a yard sale and keep the profits?  Just about every house has some junk that they don't really need.  Because you have a year until you go, you could always get a part-time job and save that money.  That's probably the most effective and reliable way to raise money, because you know that you will get a regular paycheck.

If you fundraise from people you know (like family friends or neighbors), I recommend doing a travel blog of some sort so they can follow what you're doing in China.  It'd be a great way for them to feel involved in your trip and that their money was well-spent.
