For once, Google has failed me.

I'm thinking it's somewhere around the Mirage F-1 & the MIG range, but I can't be certain. Doesn't really matter to me which country's Air Force used them, but it would be nice to know.

  3. who can ever forget the f-4 phantom???  there were alot of great planes in that time frame

  4. The British also had the unique BAE Systems Harrier, so-called 'jump-jet'  it was a VTOL/VSTOL aircraft.  I know there was a Yakolev VTOL as well, but it had many issues, and the French tried a VTOL in the late '60s but it was not a success.

The Harrier is one of the most innovative aircraft of all time.  Older aircraft, such as the deHavilland Vixen and Venom were in service until the early '70's.
