  1. Yeah, pretty much the way hi223 described it, but were we really any worse off for it? and yes we were totally more Irish if that makes sense.

Also, because people had so little everyone had to pull together and people relied on people and every-day living was just more social and community based than now. I grew up in the eighties and we used to practically live in our neighbours homes aswell, we knew everyone in our area. If we hadnt got enough food in the house (which in fairness was rare enough) but, we'd just go into one of the neigbours and 'borrow' a batch loaf or a pint of milk and they would do the same when they hadn't got it. Everyone had respect for their elders (god I sound so old!) and it would be perfectly acceptable for a neighbour to give ya a whack round the ears if ya were cheeky or up to no good. I suppose Economically we were very bad off, but socially, we were much better off than now.

Oh, also, do ya remember the sweets from the eighties, Macaroon bars, Kalypso's, Big time, Wham and Stinger Bars.

  2. Good Times my friend, Good times......

    LOL!

    = )

  3. Shite, unemployment was sky high and if you were lucky enough to have a job you'd be taxed to bits, higher tax bracket now is 42% now (i think) and was about 62% then (i think).

Everyone was on the scratcher. (Social welfare)

Although arguabley we were more Irish then, then we are now. (me thinks anyhow)

  4. was so stoned i cant remember

  5. Looking back at photos of myself, terrible fashion, can't say much more than that as I was a kid back then.

  6. CUTE h**r politicians were even hoorier,

  7. Was only a wee'un but all I can remember is being broke and wearing rediculous wooly jumpers that sometimes had shoulder pads? What the h**l was that about??

  8. As I remember it, depressing with high unemployment & some really bad clothes most of which have come back into fashion again.
