What were the capitals of the union and the confederacy during the Civil War?? ?

For the Union, Washington DC.

The Confederacy is a little different. Initially you have the Confederate capital at Montgomery, Alabama when the Confederacy is first officially formed in February of 1861. It is here that Jefferson Davis is sworn in as President of the Confederacy on February 18, 1861. The capital was then moved to Richmond, Virginia in May following Virginia's secession from the Union and admitance into the Confederacy. For most of the war the Confederate capital would remain in Richmond.

However, this changed in 1865 with the Fall of Richmond. The Confederate government fled Richmond rather than be captured with the city and set up the new capital in Danville, Virginia. Danville became the third and final capital of the Confederacy on April 3, 1865.

Southern capital would probably have been New Orleans, as that was the South's commercial, financial, and industrial centre...except that this was captured at the start of the war.
