  1. The need to be different.

  2. Lucy (real name Lucille Désirée Ball ) was an iconic American comedian, actress and a thirteen-time Emmy Award winner.

She was the first woman in television to be head of a production company.

A real pioneer for women in hollywood who was initially discovered by Desi Arnez and amazingly only about the size of a modern chimpanzee.

  3. Lucy is a very good fossil of a Homo afarensis.  She was a somewhat chimp like but bipedal ape/hominid.  Lucy is probably close to the chimp human common ancestor.  Lucy probably lived in large groups with large males that protected the group but there is not enough evidence to be sure.  She had a very small brain, comparable to chimp.  Her hand bones were curved and are believed to be useful for climbing trees.  She may not be in our ancestry at all but it probably at least closely related to one of our ancestors.  She is different because she is so complete.  She provides nearly incontrovertible evidence that there were good biped 3 and half million years ago.  I think the evidence suggests that bipedalism didn't evolve as previously theorized as a result of the spread of savanna.  Clearly bipedalism as proven by Lucy and earlier ones such as Sahelanthropus evolved before much of Africa turned to Savanna.

  4. Very good first answer. I might add that there is actually some debate about the social organization of A. afarensis. Due to recent statistical evalutations of the different sizes of fossils, it is now believed that A. afarensis was a species exhibiting very high sexual dimorphism. High sexual dimorphism is a trait in polygynous species, suggesting that A. afarensis females formed groups with typically only one mature male.
