  1. Articles of Confederation sought to protect the states from a strong central government.  It had no system for collecting federal taxes, and it did not provide for a national army, only whatever the member states wanted to provide.

    this means that it had no ability to enforce its laws, and had to rely on the states to do this.

    There also was no national currency.

    After Shay's Rebellion showed how weak the Federal Government was and the danger there was in not having some central control, the Constitution was drawn up.

    It provided for an army independent of the states, it provided for taxes, and it had a stronger central government.

    We went from being a collection of states with a loose configuration to a united country.
