Literally it means "lightning war."  It means rapid movement of forces, and this was based on use of fast armored units as well as parachute troops.

The fundamentals would be to rapidly move a strike force into an area to be conquered, take it and then later worry about resupply and reinforcements.  Often the armor and airborne elements would be teamed against an objective, allowing a strike force to hit from both directions.

The serious drawback to this strategy is the danger of getting too far ahead of your logistics pipeline.

strike hard N fast, where it hurts and before they know it

first the planes bomb the comunication and sever vital links... then para troops to capture harrass and sabotage.. and to find out where thier infantry is...

then fast light tanks, motor bikes and jeeps roll in and secure

but not occupy.

the slower things catchup later.

there were times when some pockets or enemy forces didnt even know thier country had already fallen... and remained for quite a while haha

Though the idea originated from a small group of British military thinkers, it was the Germans who put their ideas into action. The fundamentals of a blitzkrieg attack, was to attack using highly mobile armor, shock troops, dive bombers and paratroopers. The idea was to capture or encircle the enemy rather than push them back. the blitzkrieg defeated the enemy by cutting off supplies and destroying their communications.
