  1. Answer: There wasn't a day were everyone said, "There's no more slavery." Ending slvery was a very slow process. Many laws were made and changed to make slavery end. Even though the law was made in 1865 to end slavery, people still practiced slavery and plus slaves didn't know any other way of life, so some slaves stayed on the plantation on their own free will. It wasn't until about the 1930's is when slaves started to fight back and demanded their freedom even though they were already free legally, but they weren't treated as though they were "free" Since plantations were losing money since people didn't want to be slaves anymore, people began to kill slaves. So slaves weren't really considered free until the 1960's, when more laws were made to protect people and more people of color began to take part of the government.
