    Messerschmitt me109

    Mitsubishi zero

and last but by no means least

    P51 Mustang

The only really famous bomber was the Lancaster

Bad score or not, i'm English, the only famous bomber is the lancaster.

  2. the P-51 was famous, (fighter), and the B-29, the bomber that bomed japan was famous, those are just 2

  3. hellcat and zero?

  4. Fighters:

    -Supermarine Spitfire (Brit)

    -Hawker Hurricane (Brit)

-DeHavilland Mosquito (Brit), also used as a bomber and recon and attack duties.

    - Hawker Tempest and typhoon (Brit)

    - Gloster Meteor (Brit) first allied jet.  Not as advanced as it's German rival, but had a much longer service life and history.

    - Bristol Beaufighter (Brit), also a light bomber/attack aircraft

    - Messerschmitt Bf109 (German)

    - Messerschmitt Bf110 (German) Bf is the correct designation as it was a Bayerische Flugzeugwerke design.,

    -  Focke-Wulf 190 (German)

    -  Messerschmitt Me 262 (German) First German jet fighter but Hitler insisted most be used as bombers, thus blunting their performance.  More advanced than the Gloster Meteor, but is still a "low mach" wing and airframe.  Engines were unreliable, though the core design was more advanced than the more reliable British engines.

    - Mitsubishi A6M 'Zero' (j*p)

    - Chance Vought F4U Corsair (US)

    - N.American P-51 (US) built to a Brit spec, with Brit engine!

    - Lockheed P-38

    - P-47 Thunderbolt (US)

    Bombers:

    Brit:

Avro Lancaster: largest bomb load of any WW2 bomber, even the B-29.

    Handley Page Halifax.

DeHavilland Mosquito: One of the fastest allied aircraft of the war, versatile, made of wood!

Vickers Wellington: Most built of Brit bombers.

Fairey Swordfish and Barracuda (Torpedo bombers)

    Shorts Stirling

    German:

    Heinekel He-111

    Dornier Do-17

    Junkers Ju-87 Stuka (dive bomber)

    j*p:

Mitsubishi 'Betty' bomber (cant remember the exact name)

    US:

    Boeing B-17

Consolidated B-24: most produced US and allied bomber

    North American B-25

    Boeing B-29

This list is not extensive!  There are many more not included here.  I have only include the main nations except I have not included Russian aircraft with which I am not familiar.

  5. P51 MUSTANG !

    Still beautiful.

Ps. I was surprised that a B17 only held 12 bombs each.

  6. Bombers:  B17, Lancaster, Mosquito, B29 (dropped the atom bombs)

    Fighters;  Me109, Fw190, Me262 (first operational jet)  A6m Zero, P47, P51, P38, Spitfire, Hurricane, Yak 9

    Most numerous bomber built:  B24

    Most      "            fighter      "  :   Me109

Some trivia:  Most folks automatically associate the B17 with the bombing campaign over Germany.  HOWEVER, the B24 flew higher, faster and carried a heavier bombload over the same distance.  Due to its superior performance, B24 groups were based in the Midlands and western parts of Britain.  The B17 groups were in the London area and Kent.  The press were based in London, so the easiest groups to visit were:  the B17s.

  7. pretty vague. it depends on the nation. I would say the fighters would be: P 51, ME 109, Zero, Spitfire. The bombers would be: Lancaster, B29, B 17, B 24

  8. If you were to ask a Russian they would say the IL-2 Shturmovik made by Iluyshin.  Russia's premier ground attack aircraft.  42,000 were produced from 1941 to the time of the Korean War.

All the answers above mine are great.  Just wanted to add one of the lessor known heros of the WWII aviation world.

  9. obviously the spitfire and hurricane

    german - merrschemitt b109

    mosquitoes, Lancaster bombers

  10. EEH all of them
