  1. 1950's : Best decade to have lived in

    1960's : Nothing but insanity

    1970's : g*y!

    1980's : Rocked

    1990's : Sucked

    2000's : Worse than the 1990's !

  2. Umm the 1950's, not much happened. No major events, apart from the Korean war that is, but nothing else.

Why were they quiet? Everyone was still collecting the pieces after the Second World War and didn't want to think about war.

  3. I have read Colonal Morgan's, from the memphis belle, memoirs. He states that the quiet 50's were the war generations' construction to deal with the horrors and memories of the war. Some of the war generation wanted a clean and sanitary life after the war. This is why the 50's appear so quiet, b/c the 40's were so loud.

  4. The quiet 50's was the decade following the end of WW II. After the war, it toook a while for society to get back into pace with itself. The changes, the stress, during the 1940's slowly gave way to a status quo...that was the 1950's. Society was very different, much stricter and more structured. Rules were important and not to be broken. Most agreed on and knew what was right and what was wrong.....no shades of gray...everything was black or white. There was more emphasis on consequences of ones action. People were held much more accountable for their actions. Men were mostly the bread winners, the ones who worked, had careers, and made the money to support the family. Women were mostly expected to stay home and be in charge of the home and taking care of the family.

Now, thats a huge generalization, but thats why they were called quiet. Society was at a standstill...the old norms that regulated society before the wars, WW I and WW II, were back and everything was a quiet round of days, everyone trying to be the normal, average family.
