I live in south florida and saw some banded red knots on the beach not too long ago. The bands were like nothing I had seen on a bird before though. they were almost paper like and stuck out from the bids leg about a half an inch. The piece sticking out had a 3 letter code on it. These band looked soft (paper like) and were very easy to read. They seemed like a much better option then the current metal or plastic bands. Does anyone know what these thin, soft looking bands are called or where to find them?

  1. I'm not quite sure what their called, I did study them in science, and they're for traking where the birds flew and stuff, the numbers are supposed to be number to call, and your supposed to report where you saw the bird and what it was doing...It sort of like a migration thing with the birds, just recording information and stuff!
