What were these clear, jellylike balls at the beach that I found? They have a streak of orange-brown in them?

I was at the beach in Nova Scotia, Canada today. When the waves went back down leaving the sand wet, I found a lot of these jellylike things. My guess is jellyfish eggs, but I'm not sure... They had a tough structure... They kind of resembled a cell in mitosis to me. They had an orangish-brown streak in the middle with some other dark stuff on the side. What was it?

  1. Just a couple guesses... pieces of kelp or algae maybe.

  2. dead jellyfish er jellyfish eggs

  3. Here's a video of common jellyfish eggs, is this what you saw?

Check out some of the other images on that site and perhaps you'll identify it. I sure hope it was something jellyfish-related, and not toxic waste! : )

  4. Probably the remains of larger jellyfish: the tentacles and edges weather away, leaving a harder jelly "core" to be washed up. Would help if you said how big they were.
