Before the concept of Global Warming became common knowledge what were people more worried about? Was it something like wars, famine etc.

I just really need to know what most people were more worried about before Global Warming.

Thanks for all your help.

  1. As far as environment, we were and still are worried about deforestation.

Also the hole in the ozone layer, which is a atmospheric problem that we reacted to and solved.

Banning CFC's and chemicals such as freon resulted in a recovery of ozone and a much smaller void.  Clear cause and effect.

  2. My elementary school education included a large amount of emphasis on "Saving water" and "The Three R's" (recycling). Famine in Africa was also important, but not studied in school.

  3. Aids was a big priority, that has shifted focus. Also the tech stock failure, displaced many investors.

  4. Jacques Cousteau warned us about pollution for over 30 years. He documented the huge loss of sea creatures over time. No one seems to be talking about that now.

  5. The ozone layer and a  hole in it.

I don't believe that we solved it because we did not believe ozone could be made but it can apparently. so the hole got smaller I am curious about what jeff means when he says we fixed it.

  6. Nuclear war.

  7. Well thinking back the fears were Y2K, Killer Bees, running out of landfill space, Avian Flu, SARS, AIDS, being struck with asteroids or meteors, nuclear meltdowns, overpopulation, food shortages, blah, blah, blah....

People need to be scared of something.  It provides stimulus to otherwise board lives.

  8. it was the cold war and arms race with russia..
