I was in 5th grade, class had just started. My teacher [[he died in 2002ish from cancer =( ]] was asked out into the hallway by another teacher. Twenty minutes or so had passed, then he finally came in. He didn't tell us abruptly that America was supposedly attacked, but he eased his way in...describing the WTC Towers and the Pentagon, and that planes had crashed into them. He then told us about the plane that crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, the reason was unknown at the time at why the plane lost control. Me and my classmates were all in shock, and yet, we still didn't understand the situation. After school, me, my sis, and my parents [[now divorced]] rushed to the gas station to get fuel, I had never seen so many people at a gas station before. It's funny how I remember this, but can't remember yesterday. =)

  1. I was a press operator for the Health Department. Me and my two coworkers were informed by our foreman and we went into the tech support center and watched a live feed of the event. An exodus of thousands of people in my city filed from downtown thru the district where our building sat, a brisk 45 minute walk. The streets were like a ghost town. We had to stay because our department is part of the civil service and must remain functioning in emergencies. I remember that day very vividly.

  2. I was in school too.

  3. 5th grade?  omg... I was working.  Went to my boss' house to watch it on TV.

  4. i was in 5th grade as well. I was in Art class when another teacher ran into our class and was whispering frantically into my teachers ear. My teacher began to cry and we all wanted to why. Next the teacher who came into my class turned on the TV in the classroom and we were all watching. Next thing we know this air plane comes out of no where, then the buildings start to fall. We went home early. We later found out that my teachers son worked on one of the higher floors and was killed. It was a sad day.

  5. I was just getting off of a twelve hour shift fixing F-15s on Seymore Johnson AFB after the second crash I went back to work to prep 52 F-15e's for war. I saw my wife 36 hours later.

  6. sitting in front of television sipping on my coffee in disbelief at what was going on.

  7. Watching it on TV and praying my family was okay.  Turns out not much went right that day

  8. I was in Kuwait with the US Army.  We were there in case Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait again.  I as out on a range observing artillery fires when it happened.  We only heard bits and pieces of what happened and were told to ready our combat vehicles because Saddam was mobilizing his army.  It turned out he was moving his army to defensive positions because he knew he was a prime suspect and was waiting for retaliation. It was still nerve racking because only part of the picture was available to us.  We didnt get to see pictures of the towers until two days later when it was evident that Saddam was hiding his army and not invading.

We also had problems with Palastinians in Kuwait celebrating it.  The Kuwaiti police had to break up thier celbrations.

It was all a very sureal time.

  9. I was in first grade.. And I don't think I knew what was going on, along with my class mates. I was really young, and I don't think I knew about it until a week later.. I guess I was so young that it was a blur, but I still barely know anything about it. =( I wish I did, because it seems fascinating (but I know it's DEFINATELY NOT a good thing).

  10. I was asleep when it happened. My friend Penny called me and said " Turn on the news, tow planes crashed into the WTC!" I didn't believe her, but I turned it on anyways and sat there on my bed in shock with chills covering my body. I got up and called my mother, crying. Later, Penny and I went to her church and prayed for everyone involved. I will never forget that day, ever.

  11. I was working as a Collection Specialist  for a large Bank  negotiating payment arrangements with one of our customers. He stopped in the middle of our conversation and said an airplane had crashed into a large building in New York City. My initial reaction was one of skepticism; since this guy had ignored all of my previous calls. My co-worker in the cubicle next to me confirmed that there had been an explosion that followed. I was stunned, my emotions went haywire and tears began to flow. Our employer decided the trauma of the days events had overwhelmed many of us and allowed us to go home for the rest of the day. I can vividly remember sitting in front of my television at my apartment until late that night never bothering to remove my coat or clothes.

  12. First day of college. They ended up closing school, Since we are from Long Island and about an hour east of NYC. Not how I pictured my first day of classes.
