What western saddle should i get?

Question

I want to get a western saddle for trails and to goof off with my friends. It cant be more than $1000 and i would prefer a light weight one. Any help?

I bought a few all leather saddles on ebay for under 200 from saddle4all, including shipping.  They may not be name brand but if your just pleasure riding they will do fine and they have some pretty ones with silver even.  I use them on trail and have my barrel saddle for competition that was 900 hardly used, circle Y, at a tack shop.

I bought a Ballard saddle last year, they are great quality and inexpensive. I paid $750 for mine. they are only sold at their stores. That is so they can cut out the middle man and keep their prices down. I really love mine, I used to ride on a circle Y however I think the Ballard is much better. The only store I know of if is in Norco Calif. on 6th st. You can probably google them to find out if there are any more stores. They also come with a life time garantee....

I know that some people don't like the sythetic ones but a family member has had one for about 12 years now and it is still in really good shape. The light weight (about 18 lbs) and the fact that it is very low maintence (simply hose it down and let dry) was the reason I just purchased one for myself. I got it on Ebay for $123 including shipping and it arrived yesterday.

I have an all leather one that was given to me and I will have to recondition it and it is about 45 lbs. For those reasons, it hasn't been used yet.

So for the grab and go I chose the synthetic.

I highly disagree with the person who said that you can't get a good saddle under $1000...there are lots of great quality saddles, new and used for less than that; I happen to prefer used saddle when it comes to leather because then they're broken in. If you're just looking for a saddle to "goof off" in, look at cordura-type saddles that are easy to clean and are far cheaper than leather. My favorite tack site is:

you should try ebay. Its unlikely that you can find one in a catalog or a store for under $1000. I've gotten a lot of my tack on ebay for really good prices! Good Luck!

well as for lightweight, you could get a wintec one?

if its just for trails and mucking about in you dont really need a brand spanking new 1000 dollar one.

they are in the quokka (do they sell that wherever you are?) for 600 and lower. i got mine for 400 brand new from horseland few years agoand its still in good condition(they do have some good quality ones). otherwise you could go with ebay but you never really get to chekc out what your getting until its payed for and you have it.

just check out local feed stores, europa, horseland, ebay, quakka or even if you have a friend that has one they want to get rid of.

wintecs are about 200-300 dollars btw.

Abetta saddles are awesome lightweight saddles. They're a repeatable name and great quality unlike a lot of the other lightweight saddles out there. They are synthetic so they are easy to clean as well.

U will hardly find a good quality western saddle under $1000.

Unless it is second hand or the person wants to just get rid of it or it is really worn.

u can try saddleries if they have like notice boards and u could put up a wanted poster or u could find someone selling one.

even ebay but there are some pretty slim chances itill be under $1000.
