Question:

What/where do you put the venting hose when you are running the portable everstar air conditioner in dry mode?

The manual says not to put the vent hose in the window when you run it in dry mode, but it puts out an intense heat, if the heat had somewhere to go besides into the same room, it would be 15 degrees cooler than when it is in the normal cool mode. Any help would/will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Kat

  1. Firstly, dehumidifiers, heat pumps, and air conditioners are the same animal.  They pump heat (via coolant evaporation) from a cold side to a hot side.  They blow air across the cool side and into the room if they want to cool; the hot side is vented outside.  The process is reversed for heat pumps.  For dehumidification, the fan blows air across the cold side (condensing the moisture from the air) and then across the hot side, returning the air at the same temperature*.  The * is that the machine is not 100% efficient, and it must cool itself too, so that's the extra heat.

Short answer:  If you need to dehumidify in the heating months, hose inside/disconnected so you get all the waste heat indoors.  If you need to dehumidify in the cooling months, hose outside, and the machine basically functions as an air conditioner (in fact, unless it has a humidity control, it IS an air conditioner).   Air conditioners dehumidify as well as cool ergo "Conditioner" not just "Cooler".

    Good luck

  2. I am not familiar with that brand but it must have a container for the condensate to collect in.

Some portables use the hot air exhaust to remove the moisture the unit has collected and doesn't have a container or drain connection.

I would think dry mode is to remove humidity and not cool the air so that would be why you would not vent the heat out.

It would work just like a dehumidifier.

I would think you would only use this mode in an area that doesn't require cooling (like a basement) but has a moisture problem so just humidity removal is necessary.
