  1. It's a song

    It's a song

It's a song about ping pong

  2. One of the first aussie rules legends

He created a stir jumping high onto the backs of other players and marking the ball

More recently, as a promo for show song, he became famous again through the song

As kids we would try and match his skill

If we took a beg mark (called a speccy) our mates would yell out 'go casaly'

    Cheers

  3. Roy Cazaly is perhaps the best example of an AFL 'Legend'....he switched over a few different clubs in his massive career (which spanned like 30 years from what I remember! He retired at about 47-8 years old, which is unbelievable...), and was perhaps best known for his amazing speccies...hence the song "Up there Cazaly"....his leaps were really impressive!

"Fly like an angel, you're out there to win..."

  4. You kids today - very quick on the computer. Googling your way into everything. I'm not knocking it, I think it's great too. I am old enough to have been caught up in the hype surrounding this bloke. He didn't take "screamers", he was a ruckman with a huge leap, thus "Up there" was screamed in anticipation at bounces and boundary throwins. There is one famous photo, no doubt taken by a cameraman lying on the ground to get dramatic effect, of Cazaly in the air, ball on fingertips of one hand as he presumably feeds it down the throat of his rover. You know, the old days of five lines of 3, 2 followers and a rover. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end?

  5. Roy Cazaly of South and Hawthorn.

Including his pre and post VFL days, the man played over 500 games in his footy career.

It is not a dumb question. If you don't know, please ask.

  6. Hope this helps...

"Up There Cazaly" is an Australian sporting catchphrase inspired by former St Kilda and South Melbourne great Roy Cazaly ("Up there Cazaly" was "a phrase that would be shouted by team mate Fred "Skeeter" Fleiter when he wanted Cazaly to go for a mark"[1]). The expression later became the basis of a song recorded and composed by The Two Man Band (Mike Brady & Peter Sullivan.)

The song was recorded in 1979, intended as a promotion for Channel Seven's Australian Rules Football (VFL) coverage, and the following year, it was used in the film version of David Williamson's The Club. The single, released on the independent Fable Records label, sold over 250,000 copies and became the largest-selling Australian single ever released up to that time.

  7. To put it in short, Cazaly (Roy) was a player and coach famous for taking some 'screamer' marks.

  8. Laurie is right, he wasn't a high flying bloke who took marks,  that's the thing about google, people just copy and paste what ever they find,  some one put on Dougy Hawkins, wikepedia page, that he now is a franchise owner of a dominos pizza store,  Doug has no idea what they are on about, the closest thing is, he eats the bloody things, LOL

It's funny how things evolve,   anyway Cazaly was a high leaping ruckman, from all accounts of my Footy mad, Saints loving Nan, he was a great player, played for south melbourne, St.Kilda and Hawthorn, coached there as well.

If you a serious user on here, never be afraid to ask a question, we can normally tell who is 'acting the goat' for a reaction, i think you are genuine, so there's your answer..

  9. Cazaly was a ruckman who took the occasional mark. All he was known for was having a decent leap at the centre bounce downs. It was done a bit different in those day - just a straight run up, from either side, by the oposing ruckmen. The one with best leap generally won the contest.

Over time there has been a lot of hype about this blokes achievements. In legend he was 10 times better than he was in real life. In actual fact his exploits are getting longer & better each year.

  10. roy cazaly famouse coach of hawthorn an took massive marks. has his own song "up their cazaley"

  11. a person from tasmania who was one of the best, and I guess he played for a long time also, I want to say he played for Hawthorn but I could be wrong
