  1. what does it mean: the race, or like the people

who does it apply to: Hispanics

...its like how people say white power or black power....

  2. It is Hispanic people in the United States who are fighting the battle for equality.  It was very strong in the 70's and 80's with the agricultural workers fighting for better working conditions.  They still exists, but the labor union doesn't seem as strong as it used to be.

  3. la raza = the race in Spanish

It is used as a method of group identification for Latin people all over the world but especially those living abroad such as in the US.

The term Hispanic is a tricky one and not used as often these days.  Hispanic limits itself to Spanish speakers which excludes Brazilians who speak Portuguese.  Most often the term Latin is used so as not to exclude these Brazilians.  Though in this case 'La Raza' could be argued to apply onlt to 'Hispanics'.
