Question:

What wild animal would eat a domestic cat or dog?

I went outside to get my kitty in a few minutes ago and couldn't find her, but I noticed a small string of fur on my porch. I think something got her, and that is all that is left. Hopefully, my imagination is just going wild since she is always right there. She never leaves the yard, and usually just lays on the porch. I live outside the city limits but not in the deep woods or anything. What would get my cat? She always comes when I call. There is nothing else on the porch except that string of fur and some spilled water from her little bowl.

  1. If you didn't hear anything, than I don't think it would have been killed by anything. Just keep calling it or making a noise with its food (like our cats eat biscuits, and we shake the box, that makes them come in) or if it has a squeaky toy you could squeak it. Go out to the yard and have a good look. Hopefully she'll turn up soon :)

  2. A fox or coyote.

You probably would of heard her scream if that was the case though.

  3. I don't know where you live?  alligator? near water?  coyote, wooded area?  possiple hawk or eagle.

  4. a lot of things can get your kitty, such as a hawk, coyotes, wolves, foxes , even a bear..i wouldnt let her wounder around too far

  5. Coyotes will eat cats and tiny dogs. I saw it in a program once. Birds of prey (eagles, hawks, etc.). One such bird, I think an eagle swooped down and picked up a Dachshund (a weiner dog) but it struggled and bit the bird on the leg and was let go. Cougars might as well as bears, and badgers. I just looked to see if raccoons eat dogs and cats on an internet site and it was talking about a book and it said the book makes no reference to that.

Coyotes, cougars and bears have been reported in the city. I hope your cat didn't get eaten and it was just a struggle and it ran away. Try to ask your neighbors if they saw or heard anything.

  6. el chupacabras

  7. Hopefully your cat is ok. She may have been chased by a dog and gone and hidden somewhere she may have hit out at the dog in defense then ran off knocking the dish over. Foxes are the only animal I can think of that would consider killing a cat but this is rare and the fox would have to be very desperate for food to do this. Give it time hopefully your cat will return to you when it feels safe again.

  8. I hope it's not what you think, I really do. But there are wild animals that would and can kill and eat cats. raccoons, coyotes( had a friend in Washington state, we had to make sure all her cats were in at night),even a large owl, here in southeast Alaska its eagles and bears.Depends on where you live.

I hope she shows up happy and fine.

Yes, raccoons can kill and eat cats.  my friend in West Virginia sent me a pic of a raccoon that was coming on her porch to eat out of the cats dishes. It was bigger than the cats. I shared the pics with friends and got a email back from another friend outside of Seattle saying they had lost one their cats to a raccoon. they trapped and killed it before it got any more pets.

I'm still hoping she'll show up ok, maybe was hiding or something.
