  1. I moved from Ohio to PR last year.  You do not need a passport because it is a US territory.  It is similiar to moving from one state to another except that the "move" will have to be inspected upon reaching PR.  Check out different movers.  I used La Rosa del Monte.  They charged by size, not weight.  I was warned not to use movers that charge by weight.  For electric and water connections, you will need to pay a deposit to have each of them put into your name.  do you speak Spanish?  San Juan is pretty expensive.  If you are taking your car be aware that it can be pretty expensive plus you have to get special "tags" for a few years and pay a little bit more because it was imported.  If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.

  2. Moved from NC to PR last year.

If you are a US citizen you can work here - if you are a legal resident you will need your green card

Used United movers, but any large moving company should be able to do it.

If you ship your car, you have to pay an import tax (around 6% of the value of the car).

Try to have a job lined up. Unemployment is around 10% here.

San Juan is expensive - gets less expensive the further away you are - but it's still not cheap

    Good luck
