What specific documents or paperwork will I need to have with me when I trade in my car? I have never traded a vehicle before and am unfamiliar with the process. I have not yet started looking for a new car, I would just like to be prepared. Thanks for your advice.

  1. Title.  thats all.  if your car is paid then the title is all you need... but I might also bring proof of maintenance done to it.. Ie. oil change receipts, or replacement parts receipts, anything that proves you did work to it that you say was done to it.

  2. If it's not paid off just take the registration. They will contact the bank and take care of all the necessary paper work.

  3. You need be careful when going to trade in your vehicle to a dealer.  If you are not certain of the value then you can be at a disadvantage.

Dont be suprised if a dealership makes a terrible offer. It's really easy to get a quote at a website to check how much your ride is going to fetch.  I have recommended http://tradein.123thebest.info - Good luck.

  4. IS your trade in paid off? If it is paid off and you dont owe any money. Just take your title. That is it.  and the vehicle.

If it isn't paid off, take your title and the attached lien on the title"if its not stamped on the title". Take your lenders information and that is it.
