What will John O’Shea, Darron Gibson and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wes-Brown-c36791 add to Sunderland’s squad? – English Premier League (Part 2)
After elaborating on how http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darron-Gibson-c10368 can add creativity and spark to Sunderland’s midfield, it is now time to shed some light on John O’Shea’s move to Sunderland and how the experienced defender can make a difference to the Black
Cats’ upcoming English Premier League campaign...
John O’Shea
O’Shea’s move away from Manchester United certainly comes as a shock to many of the club’s supporters. According to the latest reports, the Irishman is set to have a medical at Stadium of light which will confirm his move to the
Tyneside outfit. It will be interesting to see how O’Shea fits into Steve Bruce’s plans at Sunderland, a club which faltered in the latter stages of the 2010-2011 English Premier League season. Steve Bruce’s men went into free fall after January as Darren
Bent was sold by the Black Cats to Aston Villa. With their star striker gone, Steve Bruce’s team failed to make an impact in the second half of the season as they finished 10th in the English Premier League rankings.
Whilst many of the club’s supporters have been calling on Bruce to invest Sunderland’s financial power in a striker, the former Manchester United defender has now gone out and secured a deal for John O’Shea, a versatile defender.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson used John O’Shea regularly for Manchester United as his versatility provided the veteran Scotsman with options on the field. O’Shea’s defensive awareness and positioning sense meant that he started his career as a left back but Ferguson shifted
him into the midfield department after Roy Keane left Old Trafford.
O’Shea did excel as a defensive midfielder but with Gary Neville’s injury troubles, the Irishman was soon moulded into a right back. With the ability to play a penetrative pass with both his feet and fantastic aerial strength,
O’Shea has also been used as a centre back for Manchester United. However it is quite possible that Steve Bruce will use O’Shea in the midfield department and when the need be, shift him to the back line at the centre back spot where Sunderland seem to be
light weight.
The former Manchester United player brings with him a host of skills to Stadium of Light but those http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Skills-c40539 are also complemented with around about 256 English Premier League appearances for the Red Devils. Moreover, O’Shea has excelled
at the highest level of European football in the UEFA Champions League. He was an integral part of Manchester United’s run to the final of the 2008-2009 UEFA Champions League final as the veteran full back played at the right back position for United during
that fateful season.
At Sunderland, O’Shea will provide much needed experience and command at the back. He will be used in the back four at the centre back position but Bruce might also utilize his man marking skills in the middle of the park in a
defensive midfielder’s role. Sunderland’s formation with John O’Shea might be;

In this 4-1-4-1 formation, Sunderland will be provided defensive security by John O’Shea as he will patrol in front of the back line whilst Gibson and Cattermole perform the creative duties through the midfield region.
