What will a mile do?

I'm an 18 year old guy and i'm skinny but if I show you my stomach you'd see a little pouch forming and I haven't really exercised for over 2 years...

If I only run one mile around my high school track every night what will It do for me?

One mile is pushing it for me because I've tried more and gave up a day or two later

Any suggestions? nutrition, exercise etc? It doesn't just have to be the mile for now...

I want to look better because I got into USC and It's a good year for me so I want to look my best...Can't let my body go to waste.

  1. Well, think about what you're saying...you want to run to get rid of your stomach? Wouldn't it make more sence to incorporate a little more excercise into your routine?

First things first, make sure that you are eating healthy...obviously no fast food, but also watch the calorie and fat intakes of food that you are eating in your everday life.  When you atart cutting back on those, you will instantly start losing weight, because your body will have less to burn off.

Since you are obviously not in great shape (you were tired after a mile), you should try running one lap around the track, then walk one, run one, then walk one.  Then, you would be runnign  a half mile, and walking a half mile.  After some time, you can start running more and more.

Also, you should try maybe some crunches.  THose will help flatten your stomach, and will take some time, just like running, beofore you can get into them.  Just take your time, watch what you eat, and before you know it you'll be in great shape!

  2. running for 20minutes or longer burns fat, run two miles instead.

  3. Well tips:

    1) Train more-This always helps, maybe about 3-4 times a week fairly brisk run about 30 minuts at a time.

    2) Interval training-I find this the BEST way to improve my fitness and stamina over long distances for example, find a field nice and flat with low grass. Then maybe run fast for 2 mins then medium pace for 4 mins then slow for 4 mins. Repeat this 3-6 times and you will notice and instant improvement in your running style and stamina!

    3) Eating well-This is very important and will test how much you really want to beat this girl. You must make sure you eat well but there is a difference between eating well and eating nothing. The key when trying to eat well is to eat more! This sounds crazy but if you give up say chips and then have nothing to replace them, your craving for them will become insane, where as if you find something to replace them you will hardly notice!

    4) When racing-The comment above telling you to go out in the lead I would have to disagree with. It is always best to stay 2nd but right on there tail; the reasons for this being, if its windy then let the person infront ake all the wind whilst you cruise from behind and on the last 200 just go for it inside every runner theres that last burst of energy! You just have to find it!!

Hope this helps! Its what i do and i get 13.7 in bleep test :)

    Good Luck!!

  4. Just try laps if a mile is going to kill you.

You shouldn't really push yourself TOO much, because that's risking alot.

I'd drink tons of water, and avoid sports drinks.

They're SO full of fat and sugar, they give you a jolt of energy for a short period of time, but you crash later.

Just do laps for as long as you think you can go. Just go easy.
