  1. Aircraft are still getting lighter with advances in materials technology. This is very important, as it allows flight with much more efficiency. Commercial aircraft will likely be huge to carry many more people per gallon of fuel burned. Gloom and doom predictions of running out of gas are unlikely as, sooner or later, somebody will spend a fortune to finally develop synthetic fuels. It'll be worth it eventually.

Small aircraft will follow cars toward electric power. High power electric motors are getting smaller and lighter and so are batteries.

The only thing that is hard to anticipate is the possibilty of some completly new type of propulsion. That's hard to predict, but certainly possible. For instance, expirements with clean nuclear powerplants for aircraft are already in the works. The possibilty of some kind of "anti gravity" drive seems far fetched but is possible. Go back a hundred years and tell people that huge airplanes would be carrying hundreds of passengers halfway around the world at hundreds of miles an hour and you would have been laughed at. Whatever aircraft will be like in 100 years, the only certainty is that they'll be astounding in at least a few ways.

  2. we might not be here in 100 years

    hope that answers your question

  3. This is another one of those "How should I know" questions.  But, having a little bit of an imagination, I think planes will be obsolete and we will be flying all over the place via battery packs of an advanced nature!!!  Just have to keep them recharged between flights.

  4. It's not easy to predict the future, but it can be said that aviation technology is just about developed to its limits.

In 100 years it is likely that there will be much less flying going on than there is now.  The petroleum fuels will be all gone, and no practical replacement is in sight.  Most passenger travel will be by train and surface ship, if there is enough of a civilized infrastructure to make it practical at all.

If the fuel problem can be solved with biofuels, the airplanes themselves are likely to be little different from what they are like now, except probably smaller and simpler.

I hate to paint such a gloomy picture, but the future does not look too bright.

    Sorry.

  5. I agree with Victor Ellis (1 question top of mines) but the thing is if aircarfts get lighter they will go faster but there is a less chance of people surviving in a crash if the material is very light.

  6. i believe that aircraft will collide with space craft and we will travel into space to get to our destinations quicker and planes may use alternative engines.but then again i may be wrong and maybe aircraft will be obsolete by then i would love to know what they will look like!
