Question:

What will be an appropriate answer when your dad starts talking this way?

Dad talking to his son who is probably in a hurry to get on with the fast life...

It's not time to make a change,

Just relax, take it easy.

You're still young, that's your fault,

There's so much you have to know.

Find a girl, settle down,

If you want you can marry.

Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,

To be calm when you've found something going on.

But take your time, think a lot,

Why, think of everything you've got.

For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

  1. When I was seventeen

It was a very good year

It was a very good year for small town girls

    And soft summer nights

    We;d hide from the lights

    On the village green

    When I was seventeen

    When I was twenty-one

It was a very good year

It was a very good year for city girls

    Who lived up the stair

    With all that perfumed hair

    And it came undone

    When I was twenty-one

    When I was thirty-five

It was a very good year

It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls

    Of independent means

    We'd ride in limousines

    Their chauffeurs would drive

    When I was thirty-five

But now the days grow short

I'm in the autumn of the year

And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs

From the brim to the dregs

And it poured sweet and clear

It was a very good year

It was a mess of good years

  2. You need to be a little more specific on your question. All you have is what a father may say to his child. But we don't even know what the kid wants to do and how old is this kid. For all we know the Dad could be talking to a 10 even a 18 yr old.

  3. Hey Dad look at me

Think back and talk to me

    Did I grow up according

    To plan?

    Do you think I’m wasting

    My time doing things I

    Wanna do?

    But it hurts when you

    Disapprove all along

And now I try hard to make it

I just want to make you proud

    I’m never gonna be good

    Enough for you

    I can’t pretend that

    I’m alright

    And you can’t change me

    ‘Cuz we lost it all

    Nothing lasts forever

    I’m sorry

    I can’t be Perfect

    Now it’s just too late

    And we can’t go back

    I’m sorry

    I can’t be Perfect

    I try not to think

About the pain I feel inside

Did you know you used to be

    My hero?

    All the days

    You spent with me

    Now seem so far away

And it feels like you don’t

    Care anymore

And now I try hard to make it

I just want to make you proud

    I’m never gonna be good

    Enough for you

    I can’t stand another fight

    And nothing’ alright

    Nothing’s gonna change

    The things that you said

    Nothing’s gonna make this

    Right again

    Please don’t turn your back

    I can’t believe it’s hard

    Just to talk to you

    But you don’t understand

  4. Dad I understand what you mean...I'm going to live my life as a child as of now...I will do what I want right now and in the near future I can be what I want to be...in reaching all of my dreams...

  5. In some cases it's respect but in some cases it might meen he's givin up. So say Dad I'm not ready to settle down please continue your wisdom.

  6. I don't know if this applies to you but Salam Alakum if it does. If your dad is giving you advice pay attention. He hasn't lived life without learning anything. He knows a lot probably. However if you have a realistic dream and disagree with your father then respectively tell him how you feel and go for it. Hinting by Yusuf's last name as well as his first I take it that he is an Arab Muslim. If I am wrong excuse me. However if I am right two thoughts. 1st always remember Allah/God and therefore if you follow your dream against your fathers favor do it with good intentions. 2nd you are Arab meaning that you know about respect towards your parents. Keep those thoughts in mind

  7. That's a song that i wouldn't like to answer.

  8. continuing from cat stevens ---

How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.

Its always been the same, same old story.

From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.

Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.

I know I have to go.

  9. The actual Answer, in the same song:

How can I try to explain

When I do he turns away again

It's always been the same, same old story

From the moment I could talk

    I was ordered to listen

    Now there's a way, and I know

That I have to go away

I know I have to go

AS FOR ME, my actual answer (my dad said the same things, in some other way):

Thank you dad, for constantly reminding me, and keeping faith in me.

Yes, I know that in due time, I will make those decisions and still be guided by you.

And even when I am older and you have gone, I am confident that everything I have learned from you will sufficiently equip me as I go through life, happily as you have, I hope.

  10. I'd harp on my freedom being cut short by his desire for me to get married.

"Oh, Im bein followed by a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow

Leapin and hoppin on a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my hands, lose my plough, lose my land,

Oh if I ever lose my hands, oh if.... I wont have to work no more.

And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry,

Yes if I ever lose my eyes, oh if.... I wont have to cry no more.

And if I ever lose my legs, I wont moan, and I wont beg,

Yes if I ever lose my legs, oh if.... I wont have to walk no more.

And if I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south,

Yes if I ever lose my mouth, oh if.... I wont have to talk..."

  11. I'm 15 for a moment

Caught in between 10 and 20

    And I'm just dreaming

Counting the ways to where you are

    I'm 22 for a moment

    She feels better than ever

    And we're on fire

Making our way back from Mars

15 there's still time for you

Time to buy and time to lose

15, there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live

    I'm 33 for a moment

Still the man, but you see I'm a they

    A kid on the way

    A family on my mind

    I'm 45 for a moment

    The sea is high

And I'm heading into a crisis

Chasing the years of my life

15 there's still time for you

Time to buy, Time to lose yourself

    Within a morning star

15 I'm all right with you

15, there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live

    Half time goes by

    Suddenly you're wise

    Another blink of an eye

    67 is gone

    The sun is getting high

    We're moving on...

    I'm 99 for a moment

    Dying for just another moment

    And I'm just dreaming

Counting the ways to where you are

15 there's still time for you

    22 I feel her too

    33 you're on your way

    Every day's a new day...

15 there's still time for you

Time to buy and time to choose

When you only got 100 years to live

(100 YEARS by Five For Fighting)
