  1. It's a solution, no reaction.  It called chromerge and is used for cleaning glassware because it reacts with most anything organic.


  2. Actually, if you heat it, you will get a precipitate of chromium trioxide (sometimes called "chromic acid," but the species more commonly referred to by this name occur in the solution and are not the same as CrO3).  It is a red solid and a strong oxidizer, and as pointed out by the other answerer, the solution can clean organics from glassware.
