  1. You never know if you'll find the Random Amazing  Boxer that will turn people into boxing fans, just like tiger woods did with golf, so hopefully we'll find someone like that

  2. UFC itself has already been overshadowed by MMA. The Gracies started UFC to feature Jujitsu and make money with an entertainment venue (the cage) that was ideally suited to their style.

Trouble is, wrestlers adopted "ground and pound" (in other words, the wrestlers learned how to box) and equalized the field.

Both MMA and UFC are doomed as big sellers in the long run. The youth generation is supporting it right now, but they will grow up in ten years and the next generation will grab the next fad, whatever it is....

MMA and UFC are too fussy and messy to have any long-term entertainment merit. The brawl style has less to do with sports skill than with a colloseum-style underground fighting entertainment mentality. The youth audience will move on, and the public will eventually realize that MMA is just another entertainment form that has nothing to do with finding out which fighting style is best. As people become better educated about fighting, they themselves will fiqure out that the "no holds barred" rhetoric has no basis in the highly regulated (lots of rules), wresting favored (the cage instead of an open environment), entertainment-based (now they even stop the fighters and restart if the action slows down, thus nullifying the technique of the winning fighter)  $$$$ world of MMA.

As for boxing, the main problem is corruption. No one sees the outcomes of fights credible any more with criminals running things, not to mention the steroid abuse.  The second problem is scientific knowledge. As the medical community accumulates more information about athlete's accumulated brain and pituitary damage from amateur and professional boxing, insurance and liability issues could well end the sport in the time frame you indicate.

However, as far as pure sport goes, boxing is superior entertainment. Not only has it been around since the Greeks, but its simplicity and association with everyone's natural fighting tendency make it easier to appreciate. MMA is essentially a controlled brawl. Who wants to watch two guys hugging each other?

  3. boxing...

  4. I don't think that in 20-30 years boxing will exist.  It has been dwarfed by MMA.  That is why boxing promoters are saying things like MMA fighters don't have anything but brute force.  Then Anderson Silva said he would box any professional in his weight class.  Most people shut right up after that.  People used to refer to boxers as fighters now they are called boxer and MMA fighters are called fighters.

  5. like WWE, boxing will be extinct cuz nobody will want to watch plain 'punchin' anymore

  6. By 2030, boxing would have more champions from boxers of different countries other than the U.S. I'd say by that time, people from states would strive more in MMA and people from other countries would be more into boxing.

  7. Boxing as an organized sport originated around 688 B.C.

Fighting with fists comes naturally to people.

I think people have been saying these things about boxing for a long time.

When martial arts became more popular in the US, people said boxing would be over shadowed.

More recently, kickboxing was supposed to be the new thing, because it is the BEST of both worlds, right?

    Wrong.

How many kick boxers do you know?

Do they even have a section?

Fantasy Sports, Cricket, and Handball, but no kickboxing.

The point is that there will always be people who recognize how beautiful boxing is and appreciate it.

Just because something has more options, does not make it better.

If you go down to your local 7-11 and put EVERYTHING on your hot dog, it will be gross.

Nothing against MMA or UFC, but I love boxing.

Boxing has been around for a while, and people claim that it is finally dying and blah, blah, blah.

Say it DOES slow down for the next decade [which I HIGHLY doubt], what about the little kid getting picked on who does not want to do grapples against his schoolyard bully, but just learn to fight?

What about the people looking to get fit?

What about the people who do not like grappling?

I think it is about time for a resurgence in boxing talent, especially from the US.

Boxing in 20-30 years is going to be harder, better, faster and stronger.

    People get bigger and bigger.

    Heavyweights NOW are around 6'6.

Ali was 6'3 and taller than most of his opponents.
