Question:

What will clear food that is stuck in your throat?

I often get food stuck in my throat at the back of my mouth when I'm eating. It's not just a feeling of something being stuck either - I can sometimes cough up pieces of identifiable food. I've tried dry bread, plain dry biscuits and liquids to move it when it happens but it doesn't work. Is there anything else that can be used to dislodge food when this happens?

  1. Water..

  2. Ewwww.  I'm sorry that sounds awful, I hope you find something that works. If not, go to the doctor!  Best of luck!

  3. try gargling with warm salt water. or maybe you have tonsil stones- those gross white yellow things that get stuck in the back of our throats.

  4. That definatly isnt normal.  You should see a Doctor, you need to go and speak to a Doctor....go...make an appointment now!!!

  5. Drink Loads And Loads of Water Really Quickly x

  6. Go see a Ears ,Nose, and Throat Doc.

Always chew your food and drink to wash it down each time.

A friend of mine has a problem with swallowing his food but the Doc. thinks it is his nerves.

My thoughts; yes it could be that or he may be allergic to what he eats. Check and see if it is a perticular food you eat when this happens. God bless you.

  7. This sounds strange to me and you seem like you are in danger of choking which can be fatal. I would see your Dr.

  8. This will do it....

  9. Go to the doctor and ask why your throat is partially blocked

  10. eww i get the same thing, this might sound gross, (do it when no ones around) just start to hack a lot and it will come up.. lol it works for me.

  11. Milk is supposed to be good - but I would check things out with a doctor.

  12. Drink plenty of fluids. Try gargling mouth wash after u ave eaten. I would recommend u going to the doctors 2 get checked out. Something is not right there.

  13. As well as drinking water, tilt your head back as far as you can looking up at the ceiling; this opens and straightens the throat to its maximum thus allowing the blockage to clear more easily.

  14. It's not dry bread, you need crusty bread that you haven't chewed all the way, but do it carefully so you don't choke. The hard crust will push the bits that are stuck.

It may leave your throat a bit scratchy from the crust, but it works, I've done this many times.

  15. Hi, as this is happening on a regular basis, this needs to be investigated, so do see your GP at some point. As for now, it depends what you have stuck in your throat, if it's carbohydrate then it will just break down. However if it remains in place for a long time without shifting, then go to A&E ,as food that is stuck in the throat could come back up while your asleep or with sudden movment risking aspiration, in which you could choke.

Try sipping water? maybe warm water. It is also worth mentioning that sometimes if one has scratched the throat with food, it can give a sensation that food is stuck there? but as you have said this happens a lot and you have brought bits of food back up, this is abnormal and needs to be looked at. In the meantime chew your food well and avoid dry food
