What will determine if two non-alpha males of the same species will fight when they meet on neutral territory?

  1. Think about your own decision making.  You weigh the potential benefits and your chances of gaining those benefits against the risks.

    In order to get them both to fight, it requires both of them to come to a decision to fight.  So what that usually requires is two relatively evenly matched males with something worth fighting for.

    If it's an uneven match, one will run.  If there's nothing worth fighting for they'll go about their business.


  2. Well, over-ruling the opponent is a chance to gain even more land. But usually, they'll follow the rules and ignore each other. But instinct is to stand up against a rival male, even if they aren't on their own land, so they may very well fight.

  3. What brand of cologne they're wearing and if the song playing has a fast beat or not.
