  1. Well Turkey is content to regard it as nominally independent even though they heavily subsidize it, so it probably won't become part of Turkey. The UN-backed draft Cyprus peace agreement a couple years back got pretty close to getting signed, so I guess in another 5 years there could be a permanent solution. Greek Cyprus is now an EU member, and with Turkey in EU talks it will definitely be a sticking point, so I think the EU will heavily pressure both Turkey and Cyprus to settle it. My guess is it'll go to Cyprus with some kind of regional autonomy like the Basque and Catalan regions in Spain, or some kind of "devolved" home government like in Scotland.

  2. Oh god I hope I knew the answer...

    I can guess...

Well user Andreas is kind right (even though he forgot the mention the ethnic cleansing was mutual) anyway so he is right about North will never be recognized by any other country but Turkey (maybe some Muslim countries in future).

The best thing that might happen to North Cyprus is what we called Taiwanism.

In this case North Cyprus will not be recognized as a country but it will have a right to sell its products to other countries and have direct flights. Which can be considered as a good thing for short run.

I don’t think (and I hope not) North will become a part of the Republic of Turkey in future because this doesn’t solve anything for anyone.

I think the biggest chance to unification was lost in 2004 with the refusal of the Annan plan.

Greeks were claiming that Annan plan was beneficial to only Turks since it limited the property returns and deporting settlers. But they are forgetting the fact that the construction craze in the North today. All of the Greek lands were considered dangereous and were not exchanging hands b4 the plan, but after the plan it is safe as h**l.

Especially original owners starting to die now and it is impossible for any kind of peace plan will force people from their homes to vacant the place for inheritor. They will get compensation tho.

So to sum up; Turkish side will have to pay a lot of compensation but they will get the lands. About northern state; embargoes will go away but official recognizing will never come. So we can say that NOBODY WILL WIN!!!! Thats the Cypriot way...

  3. "Northern Cyprus" will never be recognized by any nation as a country except Turkey  because its a result of stolen properties, killings, and ethnic cleansing....I hope someday Cyprus will be united again, with both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots living in...

  4. Northern Cyprus will NEVER be recognized, that is the only sure thing.

Everything else depends on who is interested more : UK or USA.

I would like both Turkish and Greek to leave us solve OUR differences, to have OUR hymn, to have OUR flag, to have OUR history

  5. It´s a complex question. People must be responsive to obbey UN decisions.
