  1. More help from the parents BEFORE the child gets to school; just parents having a positive attitude towards education and encouraging their children to GO TO SCHOOL and study and do well; taking an interest in the child's school and educational processes.  Students' apathy is by FAR the biggest hurdle to surmount these days as a high school teacher, and parents are to blame for a lot of it.  "I don't know WHAT to do with him.  We can't get him to do anything at home either.  He always says he has no homework . . . Oh, no.  I can't come to a conference about him."

  2. If students WANT to learn, they can learn without fancy technology.  And the fancy technology does not guarantee they will study.

  3. good quality teachers with small classs sizes-

weve done that at our school and we've become one of the top 50 schools in america.

we've only been around ofr about 8 years.  and believe me we arent all techhie.

  4. You missed one; a teacher, a chalkboard, a roomful of willing students and PARENATL INVOLVEMENT.

A little more money wouldn't hurt either. It is hard to reach lagging students when a classroom is filled to capacity because of budget cuts.
