The batteries state clearly what will happen:- "May explode if recharged or disposed of in fire!" I've tried it a couple of times and well they have never really exploded on me before but well you never know, what i do know is that they wont recharge and at the end of it all will still be as flat as when you put them on the charger!

You'll definitely ruin the batteries, probably ruin your charger, and possibly start a fire.

What you will *not* do is recharge the batteries.

It's not worth trying.

applying a "charging" voltage to the chemistry in a non-rechargable battery causes a gas to be formed, not the original chemicals. the gas can cause enough pressure to cause the battery case to bulge and leak.  putting this battery into a $500 digital camera will allow acid to leak out and ruin the electronics.

if the battery stays in the charger too long, it will heat up and cause the gas to pressurize to the point of causing an explosion.

bottom line, it does not recharge the battery, could do nothing, or could cause a lot of expensive damage.

some times a non-rechargable battery develops premature internal resistance to current flow. allowing the battery proper rest between uses normally clears this up, but a quick stint on the recharger can also effect this, making people think that a refreshed battery has been somehow recharged.
