  1. I guess it takes about a month or so.

  2. You may want to read this.  It is an example of what might happen      A Marine Corps E-9 was charged with Unauthorized Absence for in excess of 4 months, Violating the direct order of an O-9, two specifications of Dereliction of duty and two specifications of False official statements. We were unable to resolve the case in a non-judicial forum upon the government's insistence that the case proceed to a court-martial. After a fully contested trial, we were able to secure an acquittal on all but one specification of dereliction of duty, with a sentence of only a reprimand and a small forfeiture. The sentence imposed by the judge was less than what could have been awarded at an Art. 15. The member will be able to retire as an E-9, and receive more that $20,000 in back pay.

  3. That is up to her Commanding Officer.  At the very least, she'll be going to NJP (non-judicial punishment) or possibly direct to court martial.

  4. more than likely she will spend some time in the brig

  5. I hate to say it, but they will probably give her a dishonorable discharge. Tough luck.

  6. At the very worst a general court martial and award of a dishonorable discharge with reduction in rank to Private and forfeiture of all pays and allowance along with a time in a military brig. At best, a general discharge under less than honorable conditions because of non-adaptability. Or something between the two.

  7. Your friend will be have to face the Marine disciplinary commanding officers for being AWOL for more than 6 months if she is prepared to turn herself in.

  8. Best answer is to consult an attorney.

Many towns have Legal Aid which may help.

If you go to any local law enforcement agency, they will arrest her and forward her on to the military,

My advice would be to take an article 15 and finish the contract.

You lose future federal benefits later like school aid, veterans benefits, etc.

  9. The Marines have a very good policy:

    Mitigating circumstance.
