  1. Write to them, explaining your situation and suggesting some sort of payment plan.  Make it clear that you really want to pay the money back, but just cannot afford it at the moment. If they say no, write back again asking for the decision to be reviewed..don't give up.  Keep copies of all the letter you send and recieve.

If they agree, they will probably charge you interest, or some sort of fee, but at least you will prevent a bad credit rating.

They want you to pay...it costs them money if they have to chase you, so most times they will agree to some sort of plan.  But they will not do it the first time you write, you may have to keep corresponding with them for a while.

But writing, rather than phoning them is a much better option.

  2. This is probably not much help but my friend works in a debt recovery place. He told me that if you don't pay anything on a debt for seven years then legally they can't do anything about it anymore, it just goes into a kind of legal limbo. (unless they get a court ruling then it's extended to 12 years).

He said something about when they call you they have to be able to identify you so if you give the wrong birthdate/address/spell yr name wrong then they can't even talk to you about it.

If they send someone with a court summons (i don't think they do stuff like that for $700 though) then you just don't ID yourself when u answer the door, just tell them you moved and they can't serve u.

He reckons alot of immigrants do it when they first come to Oz. Get a whole series of loans for as much as they can and then never pay them back. All they have to do is manage to dodge them for 7 years.

So if the worst comes to the worst you can just tell them to stick their disconnection fee. They're scamming everyone anyway. Telecommunications in other countries is nowhere near as exe. as Oz. They're ripping us all off anyway.

Anyway good luck. Hope you sort it.

  3. If you don't pay it they will hound you and hound you and threaten you. Then when you still don't pay they will sell your debt onto a debt collector, who will in turn begin to hound and demand the money. If you still don't pay you will have a default listed against your name and it will ruin your credit rating until you pay the debt and then for a further 3-5 years after the debt has been repaid the default will be erased from your record. Only then will your credit rating be repaired and until it is fixed you can't get any sort of loan, credit card, store credit, or rental. My advice? Be honest and explain your financial difficulties to Three. Ask them if you can set up a payment plan that is affordable to you over a certain time. And make the payments. $768 dollars is not worth ruining your credit rating over.

    Good luck, Love Kell..x
