What will happen if i dye my hair a dark dark brown over a browny gingery colour?

Yes, i dyed my hair a few months a go, it was ment to go blonde but went a kinda brown,gingery colour. Now my roots are coming in and there dark, i would much rather have my hair dark,as im not happy with this colour but i dont want it to get any worse ... what do you think would happen if i put a dark dye over this?

put darker dye over something.. it'll go darker or even out
