  1. Just as Life Forms stated.  By running the AC in the room, you are not allowing it to vent.  Your room will be hotter within a few minutes than it was prior to turning on the AC.

  2. The way cooling works is hot air is removed. The more hot air removed the colder it gets. Heat goes to cold. We can manufacture heat not cold. Cold is the absence of heat. The way this happens is air is sucked in over evaporator coils. Coolant (now in a liquid state) in those coils picks up the heat the heat turns the liquid to gas it then goes by way of a line to a compressor where it is now super heated (so now it is hotter than the air out side) because hot goes to cooler it goes out to the ambient this is expedited by way of a fan. Hot always travels to cold. To answer your question you would be in effect heating your room waisting energy and spinning your wheels. It has to be vented out side to get rid of the now more heated air.

  3. Just like above.. "wet floor". The condenser coils basically take the moisture from the air and drain it out of the back of the unit. You could prop it up on some books and have a tray/pan over the back of the air conditioner to catch the condensate...I wouldn't see any problems in doing that.

  4. I remember from a long time ago, a question asked by the teacher when we were being taught the laws of thermodynamics. The question was - what will happen if you leave the door of the refrigerator open? will the room heat up or cool down? The answer was of course that the room would heat up as can be derived by applying the first law of thermodynamics (I think it was the first law). So the same logic would apply if you attempt to run the AC on the floor and not allow the hot air to be blown out of the room.

  5. wet floor
