What will happen if the polar ice caps melt? Science Fair project.?

My 4th grade son wants to do this as his science fair project. I have no idea how to help him present this. Any ideas?

  1. If polar ice cap melts all land except for very high elevations will be under water


  2. If the polar ice caps were to melt then the sea level will rise about 20 ft.  That means that cities like New York and Houston would be underwater.  Also, this would affect ocean currents as the polar water is cold and it would also affect the salinity of the ocean.

  3. Make a simple model using some sort of plastic to represent land in a small fish tank, or something similar. He can pour more water to represent the ice caps melting, which will slowly cover the piece of land. Should work for fourth grade.
