  1. I believe it would be the same as releasing it, and then letting it fall to the floor.  I think we are taught not to catch it because if the ball is tossed, the server tries to catch it, and then drops it, it would be considered a serve, and a side out since the ball didn't go over the net.  So we are taught not to even attempt to catch it.

  2. I think is ok . As long the ball have not touch the floor after he releasing it.

  3. I agree with Gordon, but just wanted to add some reasoning if you are having a little problem with a call.

"Traditionally", at least when at my prime time, the server would be allowed to re-serve only if the ball is released and hit the floor outside the court without any touch. If the server catched the ball, the ref would call it a service over. This might affect your refs even if you have "relatively new" rules in place.

It is similar to net rule, first receive multi-contact rule, you would have to go by what the ref believes, no argument is necessary.

  4. I think that's okay (no infraction).

  5. side out.

    recent rule change.

  6. Nothing will happen! Just make sure you quickly set yourself up to serve the ball again. (if you are competing in a serious match, make sure that foot does not cross the line when this happens, or there will be a sideout.

  7. From what I know, you cannot catch the ball. You need to let it drop, otherwise the opposing team will get a point.

  8. if the server catches the ball, its the other team's point. sometimes u r not even allowed to toss it more than once, often only twice. if u do throw it up u must let it drop to the ground. you cannot catch it. if u do catch it it is the other teams point and they are given the ball

  9. when you serve. and you mess up. you can let the ball drop once. ( this means you have to let it hit the floor. ) if you catch. it goes to the other team. and it also depends on the level you are playin at. ex freshman jv or varsity. u have to let it hit the floor and then the reff will let u serve again.

but ur only allowed to that once...in whole game

    =D

  10. then the point will got to the other team.

    btw, its illegal

  11. they will give you a replay of whatever

  12. It really depends on what rules you are using.

The junior high and high schools use NFSHSA rules.  It is allowed in those rules.  The referees are supposed to whistle the ball dead and give you a new whistle for a new serve.  If you do not serve the second toss, the other team will get the ball.

In USAV (club), FIVB (international), and NCAA (college), it is a violation to catch the toss.  If you are playing in any 14 and under USAV division, you will be granted a re-serve if you let the toss hit the floor.  In all other age groups of USAV, FIVB, and NCAA, there is no re-serve.

  13. THAT IS NOT OK!!!! U WILL COST UR TEAM A POINT AND THE OPPOSING TEAM WILL GET A POINT

  14. it would be the other teams ball you have to let it drop if you are not going to serve it
